The Nursing Home Behavior Problem Scale (NHBPS) is the widely used instrument for the measurement of behavioral problem in long term care settings. This paper reports on the translation and testing of a Korean version of the NHBPS (NHBPS-K). The translation equivalency was obtained by translation, back translation and checking agreement, to arrive at consensus among researchers and the developer of the original instrument. Then, reliability and validity of the NHBPS-K was tested with a sample of 248 elders who resided in three nursing homes in Choong-chung providence. The NHBPS-K was compared with The Korean nursing home problem behavior scale and demonstrated with convergent validity. Internal consistency for the total scale was high (alphas= .914). Test rest-retest reliability of the NHBPS-K was high (r= .974, p<.001) The NHBPS-K demonstrated adequate translation equivalency, validity and reliability. The use of the NHBPS-K can be recommended for the evaluation of behavior problems in long-term care settings.
